Lisbons best casino

Casinos are rather popular in Portugal. There are three in the Algarve region alone. But if you really want to experience the ultimate Portuguese casino, the option to choose just has to be Estoril.

Estoril is just outside Lisbon and easily (and scenically) reached by car or train from the capital. The Estoril Casino is just back from the sea at the back of an opulent green space dotted with impressive fountains. If that’s not enough to set a glamorous tone, perhaps consider the fact that this casino was apparently the inspiration for Ian Fleming’s James Bond books!

It’s perhaps a little naïve to expect a cheap night out at a casino, but there’s absolutely nothing (barring a loose but present dress code) stopping you merely visiting for drinks and soaking up the atmosphere. Drinks here are affordable, and there are various dining options from fast food to sit down meals complete with glitzy shows.

If you do want to gamble, then the sky’s the limit! There are thousands of slot machines and gaming tables with various limits, keeping everyone from the high rollers to the casual gamblers happy.

Needless to say, the casino is open until the early hours daily. Non-gamblers accompanying those who do like a flutter have art exhibitions to check out, and comfortable lounges, often with live music.

If you’re planning a big night out at Estoril Casino, you’ll find some good hotels nearby, or in neighbouring Cascais, a short walk or cab ride away. If you really want to make a night of it, it’s well worth checking out the casino’s website for specific shows. There’s also a loyalty card you can sign up for if you expect to be gambling a lot at the casino. If you’re of a gambling persuasion, there’s so much choice here that you’ll never want to leave!
